Author and her daughter, Toronto, July 2023 |
(everyone knows that September, while technically also summer, doesn't count).
August always brings a kind of melancholy for me, after the blush of June and the glory of July. August reminds me that all good things must come to an end, as my old dad used to put it. August this year brings a significant birthday, and a one-year memorial for a dear loved one.
We must suffer, suffer into truth, as Aeschylus said.
August this year also brings a new book contract with my wonderful publisher, DCB Young Readers (more on that soon). I'm also celebrating and am deep into using the resources of a once-in-a-lifetime research grant for a new book, which will take me to England at the end of the month. Such gratitude for this wonderful opportunity, thank you to the Canada Council for awarding me a Research and Creation grant, it's bringing me closer to a story about WW2 and my family, a book that I have always wanted to write.

Married! July, 2023 |
The biggest news from this summer however, is a WEDDING! My lovely daughter was married in July!
Congratulations to my bright spark, my lovely girl, and to her husband on their new journey together. xoxo
