A summer of wildflowers. A summer where one child becomes a lawyer, and another becomes a mechanical engineer. Where I turn another year older, and read a lot. Do some writing too.
A summer in which I am invited to several cottages, where I write with old friends, or play guitar and sing, or go canoeing. At one cottage, a bear walks past the window and it takes me a full 3 seconds to realize it's a bear, not a deer.
A summer of the return to Manitoulin island, a place I've loved since I was six. The smell of hawberry bushes in the ditches makes my six-year-old self want to run and skip.
Another summer of COVID but we're all moving along with it. Airports are a mess, but it'll get better I guess. Won't it?
A summer in which I feel the pull of 60 ... not yet, not yet, oh not yet.
But soon.
